resistance meetings
First edition
TePI - Theater and Indigenous Peoples held its first edition from October 9 to 16, 2018, at SESC Pompeia, one of the largest cultural institutions in the country. There were four meetings and a play open to the public that guided the relationships between performing arts and the indigenous cause, curated by Andreia Duarte and indigenous leader Ailton Krenak.
The event approached a discussion about the knowledge of the indigenous body and its representation in the theater, about the fight based on antagonism: exploitation and the ancestral relationship of the land; but also, about the perception of art as a form of resistance. The proposal created a dialogue between indigenous representatives and non-indigenous allies whose artistic and intellectual productions reinforce the importance of thinking about the decolonization of the gaze, raising other perceptions about life and art.
